Our Story
You might have noticed that we all have the same last name. That happens when you're related.
When Russ made the change in career to pursue software development, it didn't take long before he and Ben began serious discussions about making a game together. Soon after, a project began to remake the "Atari Centipede" game in VR. Unable to handle the pills and spheres that they were using, Dan offered to make "real" assets to use instead.
Within a few months, a prototype of a game was completed, and as people played and expressed how fun it was, an idea was born: "What if we made this into a game to sell?" and "Why don't we pursue this dream of making games for a living and make our own game studio?"
From those conversations, Polearm Studios was born, as was Fungal Descent.
Russ and Ben talked with Sam to see if he would lend his growing skills in 2D art and game balancing, then to Kaitlyn to bring her amazing organizational skills, and Karley to bring her advertising and marketing ability. Before we knew it, we had a family-owned and run game studio.
The dream was picked up by Good Morning America, and we were interviewed for one of their segments that aired in May 2022. From there, as they say, the rest is history.
